Camp Justice

Sunset over southern Nevada desert from the "Goddess Temple"

Hope you can join us at Camp Justice, our week long peace encampment near Alamogordo, NM.  Camp Justice will be the center of most of the activities of Shut Down Drone Warfare week, and by staying there you will be better connected with our peace community and the team building and collaboration that we want to create.  All meals will be provided at Camp Justice.  A donation of $10 to 15 sliding scale is requested for meals.  (No one turned away for lack of funds.) For those who are unable to camp, motel options, with group rates, will be posted on our website in the weeks ahead.

WHERE:  Beautiful Oliver Lee Memorial State Park at the mouth of Dog Canyon:  Offers stunning creekside and canyon trails, water, showers, pit toilets and covered picnic tables at group campsite,  amidst gorgeous Chihuahuan Desert scenery, and much more.   Cost:  $10 per day per vehicle.  Note: It will help us tremendously if participants can organize carpooling to the group campsite, due to very limited parking at the group campsite. An additional $90/day fee for the group campsite will be covered by the organizers.

DIRECTIONS:  Located 12 miles southeast of Alamogordo, NM.  From Alamorgordo, take US Hwy 54 south 8 miles. Turn left (east) on Dog Canyon Rd. and go 4 miles to the park. The group campsite at the north end of the campground will be the site of Camp Justice.

WHEN: Noon, Saturday, April 19 to 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 26.  All must depart by 2pm Saturday, April 26.  (Our first community shared meal will be dinner on Saturday, April 26)

Group campsite campers can arrive as early as noon on Saturday April 26.  To stay at "Camp Justice," our group campsite, you must reserve a site with the event organizers.  There is a maximum limit of 75 at the group campsite, so reserve early.  For group campsite reservation contact: toby4peace@sonic.net. You can also reserve an individual campsite, if available, HERE.  Again, early reservations urged.

Join our beautiful weeklong peace encampment, "Camp Justice," where, in the spirit of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., we will create the "change we want to see in the world." This will likely be the site of much of our daily activities, including nonviolence training, workshops, educational activities, team building, and most importantly, strategizing and preparing for nonviolently Shutting Down Drone Warfare, at Holloman AFB.

Optional: bring lots of colorful visuals and signs to decorate our peace camp. Help us build a really beautiful peace community.  Tents, Cars, Camper vehicles and vans are all welcome!  Due to very limited parking at the group site, we ask that people coordinate ride shares, to limit cars.

NO DRONES!  SHUT DOWN DRONE WARFARE NOW!

ESSENTIAL THINGS TO BRING:  (This is your Checklist)

A more complete checklist will be sent by email a week before Shut Down Drone Warfare.

Everyone should bring their own sleeping bag, pad, tent and reuseable water bottle.

Re:  Clothing:  Please be prepared for cold and hot weather and for skin protection from sun and dry weather.

Optional Items Recommended:  Your personal reusable coffee/tea mug, lip balm, skin moisturizer and nasal saline solution for hot/dry weather;  Instruments. Song lyrics/sheets to share.

Location of Meals:  We are in the planning stages, but light breakfasts will be available at Camp Justice.

During the week, for Mother Earth & her climate, please minimize trips to Alamogordo for supplies.

The New Mexico desert is beautiful all year long, with the surrounding mountains and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets to inspire us all.

Spontaneous creative expressions are welcome throughout the camp experience, with song, instruments, yoga, dancing, and other shared talents encouraged. If you would like to lead us in any organized yoga, movement/stretching, singing/dance/music, hiking, educational or other activities or workshops please contact us.

We want to create a connected community at Camp Justice in the daytime & evenings, and will do our best to provide a comfortable place to de-stress from our activist work. We will have mid-day outings and activities between am & pm rush hour vigils.  We welcome help and suggestions in this area. At Camp Justice we will also offer chances to exchange ideas and brainstorm ways we can better connect and work together to demilitarize Our Mother Earth. Some of these creative and inspiring exchanges will take place on Friday....a full day of debriefing, rejuvenation and connecting after our last vigil on Friday morning.

Remember:  We are modeling a peace community for our friends at Holloman AFB and the surrounding communities, including for nearby campers.  Let's make it joyful and fun!
